Stop taking shots at the opponent and start protecting our own.

I’ve been contemplating writing this article for a while, because I have no interest in joining this big online war that’s been going on ever since Suarez was banned for 8 games by the FA. I’ve fired off a few tweets about this debacle, but other than that I’ve tried not to vent my feelings on a forum or a blog.

It’s kind of dumb luck that this blog is about Patrice Evra, because he’s in this whole mess, and it sickens me to see him come out of this incident with a worse reputation than he had before. I have read so many attacks on Evra online that I’ve considered abandoning social media altogether, because there are so many stupid people spreading lies about him and I’m having a hard time just letting go and not attacking those stupid people myself.

To Liverpool fans,it makes no difference whether Suarez is guilty of racially abusing Evra or not. Their fierce (most people would say blind) loyalty to the club and pack-of-dogs mentality has made sure that anyone they see criticizing Suarez is attacked mercilessly online. They have made it clear that they don’t care for the FA report, because it contradicts their case, not to mention Kenny Daglish has dismissed the report as biased fluff,so they have even less of a reason to read it. If they had bothered to read it,they would have saved terabytes of server space because so much of their “Suarez is innocent,FA are biased” arguments are in the report itself. All this “negro is not an offensive term in Latin America”,”Why isn’t Evra punished for calling Suarez a South-American” and vos-tu crap are in the report. It’s almost laughable that so many of these fans who can’t even read a report want us to believe that they are bonafide Spanish linguistic experts.

They have especially made it clear that they have no interest in facts, and that’s my main beef with them. Time and again, they’ve spread lies about Evra. That he did this, that he did that, when he’s never done most of those things they’ve said. They’ve labelled him a troublemaker who plays the race card like it’s an Xbox game. They’ve said he’s accused others of racism in the past,2 times,3 times,10 times,8000 times,a million times!

Well, that is all bullshit, and a simple Google search on those alleged accusations would have been enough to prove those allegations wrong.

1) They say Evra accused Steve Finnan of making racist remarks towards him in a game in 2006. WRONG. Deaf fans who had lip-read Finnan were the ones who had made the accusations. As for Evra? He said he didn’t hear anything, and then stayed out of that matter altogether. Did he accuse Finnan of racism? No. Did he try to make Finnan out to be some sort of racist? No. Did he try to add fuel to the fire by suggesting if Finnan had made racist remarks, that Finnan be banned for a long time? No. All facts, but facts are useless to them when it doesn’t help their case.

2) They also claimed that Evra accused the Chelsea groundsman of making racist remarks when they had that bust-up at Stamford Bridge in 2008. Again,WRONG. United assistant manager Mike Phelan was the one who made the claims, and Evra, once again, never claimed that anything racist was said towards him.

All these can be found in the papers if anyone was bothered to look. If only Liverpool fans would read newspapers, instead of boycotting them for writing negative articles about the club.

For fuck’s sake, even a Liverpool fan blog has debunked those false accusations:

http://www.liverpool-kop.com/2011/12/debunking-lfc-myths-no-11-patrice-evra.html

Yet,many fans still perpetuate those lies that Evra has made racist accusations against others, and other fans eat it up. They spread the bullshit around and others devour it like Nutella because they choose not to know that they’re eating bullshit. The fact is,Evra has only ever accused a player of making racist remarks once, and that was against Suarez last October.

Add that to the false accusations that were thrown around during the trial. Things like “Suarez only called Evra a negrito” (which NEVER HAPPENED. Suarez said “negro”,and he admitted it),”Evra called Suarez a sudaca” (never happened),and the best one, that Evra is not a credible witness.

Really? Not a credible witness. Evra, who made one statement and stuck to that statement throughout the whole trial. Whose teammates gave evidence supporting his statement. Meanwhile,Suarez changes his story a few times during the trial, and Dirk Kuyt’s and Damien Comolli’s statements actually contradicted with Suarez’s. Kuyt’s and Comolli’s statements, ladies and gentlemen, were about what Suarez had told them after the game. Kuyt even lied and said that Evra told the referee “You’re only booking me because I’m black.” But nobody’s looking to demonize Dirk Kuyt and destroy his public image though, are they?

Bottom line,Evra is now the forgotten man. The man whose reputation is in tatters because of lies that were spread during the trial and is left picking up the pieces by himself because everybody is too busy demonizing or defending Suarez and Liverpool. All because he has kept quiet and let the authorities do their job. It truly sickens me.

Let’s be clear,Evra’s not perfect. He has been in a bust-up with the Chelsea groundsman and also led a players’ strike during the 2010 World Cup,but he is undoubtedly a victim in this whole incident, and instead of getting even a sliver of sympathy,he’s going to have to deal with even more abuse towards him in the future.

The point I’m making is that his name’s been unfairly dragged through the mud and nobody’s standing up for him, even though he needs it more than Suarez ever will. Public opinion has already turned on Suarez and Liverpool, now let’s make sure Evra’s name is cleared of any false accusations made against him.

When I play against a team like that I just want to beat them. For the moment Barcelona are the best team in the world, but it’s difficult for us to accept that because we want to be the best team in the world. That’s why we want to play against Barcelona again and make sure we beat them.
